Request an interpreter

Good communication is essential for quality patient-centered care. By using professional interpreters, you enable your patients to receive the same level of care, ensuring that both parties are participating fully.

Title VI of the Civil rights Act requires all healthcare institutions that accept federal funds to provide interpreting services for all patients with limited English proficiency. And as of 2021, it is an Oregon Health Authority incentive metric.

Who is NOT an appropriate choice for an Interpreter? Friends, family members, anyone who has not demonstrated proficiency in both languages, anyone who has not received training in interpretation, anyone who does not understand ethics and interpreting practices.

ODS offers free professional interpreting services for all eligible members. Services are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Plan ahead! Request an interpreter as soon as your patient makes an appointment.

  • Onsite interpreter services – Please submit your Interpreter Request Form (below) to Passport to Languages ideally 48 hours prior to the appointment.

Interpreters are scheduled based on availability. Contact Passport to Languages at 503-297-2707 with questions.

  • Over-the-phone interpreter services – For shorter interpreter needs or when in-person interpreter services are not available call 1-877-692-1590.

  • On demand (video) interpreter services – For unplanned visits, or when in-person interpreters are unavailable. Get connected with a video interpreter (new users please contact odslangaccess@odscommunitydental.com to get your access code).
